letters to the lost - book review

"we're all united by grief but somehow divided by the same thing."

Letters to the Lost (Letters to the Lost, #1) by Brigid Kemmerer

I would describe this book as the sad, comfort read we all need. it has the perfect amount of emotion and grief and anger and happiness I wanna cartwheel and cry of joy at the same time. okay maybe I'm overreacting but after reading this book you'd understand why I'm behaving like this.

Juliet Young lost her mother four months ago. her death doesn't stop Juliet from writing her letters. she leaves letters at her grave even if there's no way for her mother to read it. the young seventeen year old is torn with grief and the pain she feels inside is so severe no one can fix it.

Declan Murphy is a guy no one would want to mess with. he's the stereotypical bad guy everyones assumes he is. one time he got high and crashed his car. he's a total disappointment to everyone around him. if only someone understood him and saw him for who he really is.

Declan works at the local cemetery. one time he comes across a haunting letter left beside a grave and can't resist writing back. that someone feels the same pain he feels.

the cemetery girl and letter guy cross paths. they understand one another like no one ever understood them. the only difference is that the letters exchanged between them are anonymous.

would the truth tear them apart?

I know. i'm screaming too.

this book made me squeal with joy, scream like I felt the characters pain and groan in frustration.

letters to the lost is just so powerfully written it automatically brings tears to your eyes.

Declan and Juliet just breaking down and them feeling pain so realistically and heartbreakingly it makes you want to hug them through the pages.

I had one thought throughout the book - Declan deserves better. Even after things got better I just want my favourite character to live a peaceful and unproblematic life. call me selfish but I'd do anything for Declan Murphy.

thank you and farewell my fellow readers.

make today your best.
